Brando

Brando in the original manga.

Brando is a Turkish wrestling robot who appears in The Greatest Robot in the World. He is a big burly robot that has the ability to spin at high velocity and turn into a deadly sphere that grinds up anything it comes in contact with. Brando fights Pluto to avenge the death of his friend, Montblanc; despite this, he tells Astro not to interfere or else he'll destroy him. So Pluto fights against him instead of Astro Boy and Brando is defeated after being taken to the bottom of the ocean. But Pluto is severely damaged afterwards, making Brando one of the few robots that were strong enough to even damage Pluto.

Anime

Brando's role in 1960s anime is basically the same.

In the 1980s anime, it is Monar's death he is avenging instead of Montblanc's. Additionally, Pluto's master clearly tells him that if he destroys either Brando or Monar, the one left will avenge the other.

Brando also made a cameo appearance in the 2003 anime as a minion of Grudon sent against Pluto. However, he quickly destroyed along with Montblanc and North.

Brando is set to make an appearance in the Pluto anime adaption.

• Although Brando does not appear in Astro Boy: Omega Factor, Brontus, who has the appearance of Montblanc, can turn into a ball like him.
• In the manga, Pluto, a nicer Brando is shown having a family with five children.
