Chief Nakamura is the head of Metro City's police force. He is Inspector Tawashi's superior, but often appears as his companion when out investigating. He is a timid small man dedicated to justice, and an ally to Astro Boy.

Chief Nakamura is a short Japanese man aged somewhere in his 40s-50s. He is rather stout and round in shape, with a particularly round head, and is almost always in police uniform. He is much shorter than Tawashi; usually Nakamura stands at about half Tawashi's height.
Nakamura is completely bald, and almost always wears his police cap. However, he does have a small mustache that curls at either end.
Personality[]
Unlike Tawashi, Nakamura is rather timid. He is the more rational of the duo and not prone to jump to conclusions, but due to Nakamura's soft-spoken nature, he often cannot get a word in edgewise while Tawashi rants. As Tawashi's superior, Nakamura does have the ability to rib on or correct Tawashi without incurring Tawashi's temper.
Series[]
Chief Nakamura has only appeared in the Astro Boy manga, the 1963 anime, and the 1980 anime. He has very rarely appeared in any other Tezuka series via the Star System. When Nakamura does cameo, he always plays a police officer, but on one occasion, he has played a restaurant owner.[1]
The office of McLaw and Gumshoe
Nakamura does appear in some issues of the NOW! Comics series as "Chief McLaw". He shares an office with "Detective Gumshoe" and once again serves as his companion and voice of reason. McLaw helps in rescuing Archie from his kidnappers and in the arrest of Lance Lumiere.
