Jungle Devil Boundary (ジャングル魔境 Jungle Maikai) is a chapter of the Astro Boy manga which originally ran in Mighty Atom Club magazine from issues December 1964-February 1965..

Plot Summary[]

The chapter is a reworking of an earlier Tezuka story from 1948 previously centered on the character of Kenichi Shikishima, here replaced by Astro Boy.

The robot actor who plays Tarzan falls while shooting "Tarzan's extraordinary love". Uran, who was driving in Africa with Atom and Higeoyaji , was scouted for looking similar to the actor. When flying from tree to tree, Uran gets kidnapped. When Atom sets out to look for her, he finds human remains in an old fortress. Uran is taken to the mysterious area at the back of the jungle, where Queen Myra tells him that she will become the heir. Myra has lived for 30,000 years, and the flowers that bloom there have been around 100,000 years.. Astro Boy, Higeoyaji, and the director find the remains of Professor Hensen's will, who the bones that the Atom found belong to. It describes an unexplored area where the Queen had lived for tens of thousands of years. Then one day, a black poisonous snake attacks and the ceiling of the fortress collapses. Atom starts to approach the unexplored area with Higeoyaji, but for some reason his energy is cut off and he falls. Astro Boy becomes disoriented, but when Higeoyaji tries to climb a cliff, he is attacked by the inhabitants of a secret civilization. So the two try to approach from underground. They realize that Atom's power dimenishes when he goes near the mysterious-thorny substance. The two make it to higher ground managed to find a flower garden as far as their eyes could see, but suddenly, dinosaurs started to attack them. Although Atom manages to drive the dinos off, he is caught by the queen and Uran in a nearby location.

This chapter is one of the few Astro Boy manga chapters to have never been reprinted and, therefore - outside of the original printing - is considered to be a "lost" chapter.
