In the 1963 anime, Holmspun's role is basically the same.

1980 series[]

In this series, Holmspun is renamed Randolph Holmes and has the appearance of Kato. He appeared in "The Man-Made Solar Sphere". Here, the reason his limbs were replaced was because he was manhandled at a robots-only hospital, it was the only one nearby. Holmes' colleague Dr. Winston offers to let his robot assistant go with Holmes, but Holmes claims, "I'd rather die than ask a robot for help."

Here, Hiroshi Ochanomizu, the Solar Sphere's designer, is pursued by hitmen, so Holmes takes Ochanomizu's place. Holmes allows himself to be kidnapped so he can be taken to the solar sphere's location. However, Astro breaks into this lair, and Holmes is forced to accept help from Astro or face death and a catastrophic heatwave.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor[]

Similar to the 1980 anime, Astro Boy: Omega Factor has Rainbow Parakeet as Sherlock Holmspun, with last name spelt as "Homespun". Here, although the Artificial Sun appeared, he did not have much of a connection to it. Instead, he is the client of Dr. Black Jack, he still hated robots but he didn't want to be rude. So when Astro Boy met him on Cruciform Island, he told him about a secret door below the ruins.

After Astro gained the ability to time travel from the Phoenix, Astro figured out that Homespun was looking for Pinoko. When confronted that Skunk has her, he got an idea. He disguised himself as Ham Egg and said they got Pinoko, when Skunk proved him wrong, Rainbow Parakeet revealed himself and Pinoko was saved.
