Zeus is a terrorist robot built by Acetylene Lamp. He is used by Lamp to commit several anti-robot attacks against high-ranking robot businessmen and politicians. While Zeus is known across Metro City as a brutal killer and a traitor to robots, he is actually very naive. He appears only in the 1980 series episode "Uran Falls In Love".

Personality[]

Zeus was designed to be easily manipulated. He obeys Lamp's orders only because he is programmed to. He hates his reputation as a murderer, and this causes him to act out behind Lamp's back. Zeus is very naive, but also unable to trust others because of his experience with Lamp. At one point, Zeus considers Uran his first friend, but later feels betrayed & insulted when he realizes Uran thought his humanoid form was pretty while his CPU form was ugly.

In his complete form, Zeus is a bipedal humanoid robot. He resembles a Caucasian young man in his late teens, with long blonde hair and brown eyes. Uran becomes smitten with Zeus's appearance in spite of his violent acts. He is dressed in a grey jumpsuit with red details and a belt. When on the job with Lamp, Zeus will wear a wide-brimmed fedora and long beige trench coat.

In his CPU unit form, Zeus resembles a small silly toy dog. He is even shorter than Uran, only as tall as her chin when standing beside her. Zeus is oblong in shape, with a pointed nose and behind, which resembles the snout and tail of a dog. He walks on two legs, and is covered in red plating and protruding electrical connections from where he connects into the rest of his body. Zeus is able to disconnect from his body and walk around freely, and then reconnect by opening a lock mechanism via the back of his body's head, which then emits a magnetic beam to pull him back into place.

Story[]

Zeus was built by Acetylene Lamp to be a tool in his anti-robot demonstrations. At the beginning of "Uran Falls In Love", Zeus has been used to kill five high-ranking robots; this includes a robot bank manager and a CEO. However, Zeus intentionally misses his fifth victim's electronic brain, leaving recorded evidence that he was killed by Zeus and Lamp. Inspector Tawashi and Professor Ochanomizu find them in the victim's electronic memory and soon alert the public.

At Astro's home, Uran and Astro's parents see a news alert about Lamp and Zeus on TV. Uran is immediately smitten by Zeus's appearance, which her parents find concerning, since Zeus also poses a threat to Astro. Uran goes to meet some human friends at a local park when she finds a strange little robot dog, who she and her friends make fun of and play with. The dog's battery runs down, and Uran brings him home to help him get recharged. The brutal attacks on robot VIPs also seem to stop during this time.

The dog becomes fiercely loyal to Uran. He begins following her around everywhere she goes, much to her annoyance, especially when her human friends begin teasing her about her new "boyfriend". Uran puts her foot down and informs the robot dog that she is not interested in him, only Zeus. The dog is hurt by her remark that Zeus looks "cooler" than him, and walks away alone.

A few days later, the United Nations robot ambassador is set to arrive at the Metro City Airport. Inspector Tawashi provides extra security at the event, and Astro is brought in as extra reinforcement. Lamp and Zeus appear at the airport just as planned. Lamp dispenses knockout gas over the crowd of human spectators, while Astro fights Zeus away from the ambassador's plane. Uran cheers on Zeus, and while she's distracted, Lamp pulls a gun on Uran and begins to take her hostage. Zeus objects, and attempts to attack Lamp, but Lamp shoots Zeus in the shoulder and disables him.

Astro finally apprehends Lamp in the commotion. He and Uran are soon shocked to see the little toy dog emerging from Zeus's internal mechanisms. The dog is, in fact, Zeus's electronic brain, and he explains that he left his body with the hopes of running away from Lamp for good. Being rejected by Uran caused him to return to his creator, but not wanting to hurt Uran, he couldn't go forth with Lamp's order to kill Astro. Zeus then takes the opportunity to rejoin his body, spread his back-mounted wings, and flies off into the horizon. Lamp is finally arrested while Zeus's present whereabouts are still unknown.

  • Flight - Zeus can propel himself through the air with jets implanted in his back. Also in his back are translucent, fairy-like wings, which allow him to glide through the air.
  • Machine Guns - Zeus's main weapon is his rapid-fire, multi-bullet machine gun system. If Zeus spreads his arms to his sides, he can fire a destructive shower of bullets from the four chambers built into the centre of his chest.
  • Disassociation - Zeus's electronic brain is a solid unit that can separate from the rest of his body. It contains his voice box and some articulation, allowing Zeus to talk and walk around while in this form.
  • Strength - Zeus is able to lift heavy machinery and even some large vehicles. He can easily carry Lamp, and can match Astro's strength in hand-to-hand combat.
